Banana ‘Cookie’ Bars

Hello! The other day I was expecting company, so I decided it would only be right if I baked some sort of good. Of course, my first idea was my quick and delicious cookie bars. I begin to start the recipe and preheat the oven when I realize, we are out of butter. Of course, cookie bars cannot be made without butter, can they? So I decided to try. I used only banana instead of the butter and continued making the recipe. Not sure what to expect, when this beauty of a cake-y cookie came out, I was delighted. No one could stop eating these, and it’s probably more than half the fat my cookie bars are. Of course, that likely won’t stop me from making either again.

Here is the cookie bar recipe copied and pasted and changed slightly to be banana ‘cookie’ bars. 🙂

Chocolate Chip Challah

Hello! For those of you who go to temple… You know challah. Challah is challah. You either get it right or wrong, there isn’t an inbetween. I hope you enjoy my challah recipe. It is chocolate chip after all. 🙂

For those of you who don’t go to temple but are really curious what challah is… Challah is a beauty. It is like a giant braided roll with a touch more sweetness than usual and has a special flavor that I associate with challah, despite the fact it is just a sweet yeast-y taste. Awesome things about challah that you should know about eating challah: Challah is very good dipped into grape juice. Challah is meant to be teared off (hence the braiding) and shared with others. Challah can be eaten at any time (awesome right?) but is usually served for shabbat (Friday night at sunset to Saturday night at sunset… Jewish holy day). Challah is spectacular. It is food heaven in a bite. Expecially chocolate chip challah. Which I made today.

For those of you GEEKS: Let me tell you something about challah. We were best friends during Shabbat. I know, right? It’s so embarrassing. I don’t even… Whatever. So then during Passover, I started going out with my first unleavened-friend matzah who was totally gorgeous but then he moved to Indiana, and challah was like, weirdly jealous of him. Like, if I would blow her off to hang out with matzah, she’d be like, “Why didn’t you call me back?” And I’d be like, “Why are you so obsessed with me?” So then, for my passover party, which was an all-bread pool party, I was like, “Challah, I can’t invite you, because I think you’re yeast bread.” I mean I couldn’t have a yeast bread at my passover party. There were gonna be unleavened rolls there in their *baking suits*. I mean, right? She was a YEAST BREAD. So then her mom called my mom and started yelling at her, it was so stupid. And then she dropped out of school because no one would talk to her, and she came back in the fall for high school, all of her hair was cut off and she was totally weird, and now I guess she’s on chocolate chips. If you’ve never watched Mean Girls go educate yourself. Now.

Ok. In all honesty, this is not even my family recipe. I based this off of this Kindergarten Challah recipe. As for the actual braid a beautiful instruction for 3, 4 and 6 strand braiding can be found here as well as my version for the 3 and 4 strand below.

Leftover Cake French Toast

While making regular french toast I may have made chocolate cake french toast….  It was beyond delicious. I’m talking about mouth orgasms. The beautiful crispiness yet softness of the chocolate cake (my recipe found here) paired with the beautiful cinnamon was gorgeous. It was in total, brilliant.

Easy Chocolate Cake

I have been having far too much fun baking. From baked pancakes to pretty chocolate cake, I have been spending most of my time baking. Today I made chocolate cake. The cake made the entire house smell so chocolate-y… It was fantastic. The only change I’d make to this would be to add chocolate chips for the full-chocolate experience… But that’s just me.

Crispy Chocolate Chip Cookies

I am still continuously cooking… I may or may not have made cookies despite it being Passover and I’m not allowed to eat anything that rises… Unfortunately, I’m not very good at remembering not to eat bread and baked goods… So of course, I made cookies. These cookies are just how I like them, nice and crispy or warm and soft when they are straight out of the oven. My favorite part is the fact you can always play around with them. Add mini chocolate chips… Or swipe a little bit of nutella in the batter and some white chocolate chips and you have chocolate cookies with white chocolate chips. There are endless ideas and you already have a base recipe. Assuming you enjoy crispy cookies as much as I do… If not, I will post a recipe for chewy cookies some other day. For now, we shall enjoy the crunchy goodness of this sugary treat.

Simple Tie Dye Cake

Hello! I am attempting to catch up on everything I’ve been too busy to post! I made this right before Passover for a friend and made sure to take pictures of this delightful cake. It is a simple white cake that you can easily make into practically anything. Not to mention, it’s very simple so you can always have your kids help out with some of the batter in a smaller bowl. 🙂 If you end up doing the tie-dye they can even help you figure out what colors mixed together makes another color. It can be a learning experience as well as a fun time. 🙂

You will need sugar, butter/margarine, eggs/applesauce, vanilla, baking powder, flour, milk and food coloring.
