Bridgerton Soirée

Hello! A couple Fridays ago, Netflix released the second season for Bridgerton. I don’t know about you guys, but after the first season came out, I bought the first book in the series. Then the second book. Then the third. Next thing I knew, I had read the whole series and a good friend had gifted me the fanbook for the series.

I will not speak of spoilers for this next season, but as an avid reader, I was surprised by the route Netflix chose to take with the second season. While I will be interested in the following season, I definitely think they isolated some of the book fans from the show.

Anyhoooo, back to food. Ya know, the thing this blog is supposedly centered around. My friends, while not as interested in the series, were happy to come over for treats and an unofficial showing of the first episode the day it came out. I provided tea and goodies, lit some candles, and pulled out the blankets for adequate coziness levels.

Harley Quinn Cake

IMG_7096

For my mom’s birthday this year, I created a Harley Quinn cake. My mom has always been obsessed with Harley Quinn. She has a Harley blanket, sweater, costume and a Batman room. She is the most obsessive person I’ve ever known (I still love you mom, I probably even got that from you). I admit, this wasn’t my best work. I was slightly rushed because I had to make it when she was out and I had quite a few problems with the fondant.

Sugar Cookies to Decorate

Ok, I don’t know about any of you, but I’ve always had the problem of finding a sugar cookie recipe that doesn’t spread out. One that I can mess about with, make shapes and decorate without worrying about it spreading out or being too soft and falling apart. Well, I finally found one.

Awhile back, I was in the depths of Pinterest and I happened to pass a recipe that sounded decent, so I attempted it, mostly following the recipe. I ended up changing it slightly, and got what I consider the best sugar cookie for decorating. Although it isn’t the sweetest, it’s on the floury side, I like it because it doesn’t spread out and it isn’t too sweet for icing. Therefore, for my purposes, it was perfect. Since finding the recipe, I’ve used it a few times and finally took photos to post it here. Recently, I made them for Gage’s birthday party (will be posted in the next couple weeks).

My Supernatural Murder Mystery Birthday Party

This year was the big one (or one of them), I turned 16. And of course, I had to have a sweet sixteen birthday party. Now, while most kids consider a sweet sixteen to mean, have everyone you know come over and show off how awesome you are, I decided to invite 13 people and create a murder mystery in February. So, I set off to start the party planning.

After many hours of tedious online research to see what a murder mystery party should look like, my mom decided to help me out and we decided having it as a conversation to a previous murder would be more fun than separating the group to go find evidence and the murder victim like some of our internet sources said they had. And it was fantastic. And brilliant.

Chopped Challenge

Okay, so during winter break Amelia and I got a bit bored. We saw this thing on Pinterest where you make a jar of crafts a while back and pick a craft a day and we kind of did it with activities. Granted, we ran out of ideas for the sticks so half of them were empty… But that’s besides the point. We ended up making a stick with Chopped Challenge on it, and when we finally picked it, we asked our parents to step in to create the rules for our modified challenge and to be the judges. So it all began. My mom started out by taking picks of us, like they do in the show before they begin cooking. Here were ours:

Minnie Mouse Bowtique Pasta Salad

Hello! This pasta salad is bright pink and with bow pasta, to fit into Salem’s Minnie Bowtique Party. It is fairly simple to make colorful pasta, just boil water and add food coloring right after dumping the pasta in. The pasta becomes soft as it absorbs the boiling water, so if the water is blue, you’ll have blue pasta. For Salem, we made the water pink and added the bow-shaped pasta and got this beautiful result. To make the pasta salad, we added some poppy seed dressing, green onion, olives, corn, peas and onions and mixed it together. All in all, the guests were impressed with this easy, delicious pasta salad. We also served Minnie and Mickey Fondant Cakes and Minnie and Mickey Oreo Pops.

Other ideas could be:

  • Boiling three pots of water and splitting the spaghetti into the pots with different colors, then mixing them together to creat a tricolored spaghetti dish.
  • Adding a bit of blue food coloring to Macaroni and Cheese to create a green-blue result.
  • Using the color and pasta type for a themed festive event and serving pasta or pasta salad.

Hope you enjoyed. Feel free to email me with any questions at redheadedwhovian@gmail.com

Dexter-themed Strawberry Crepes

Hello! How has your Mother’s day been going? This morning I made a Dexter-themed Mother’s day brunch. Each year for Mother’s day I have a fandom theme. Previously I’ve done Nightmare Before Christmas and even Alice in Wonderland, but this year I chose to do Dexter. For those of you who have no idea what Dexter is, it is a brilliant TV show about a serial killer killing other serial killers. I highly recommend it. Anyhow, each year I make a menu and my mother picks exactly what she feels like off the menu and I make it for her.
